About our Pilot

Scott Humphries has been flying for 32 years. He earned his private pilot’s license in 1992 and later added a commercial pilot certificate and instrument and multi-engine ratings. He holds an FAA Advanced Ground Instructor Certificate and expects to earn his flight instructor certificate shortly.

Scott has pilot-in-command experience in 29 different types of aircraft, with complex, high-performance, high-altitude, tailwheel, and spin endorsements. He continues to train routinely in programs like the Beechcraft Pilot Proficiency Program and Piper Mirage Recurrent Training, and he’s completed 28 levels of the FAA’s WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program. Scott also completed the ATOP (Airline Training Orientation Program) for both the Boeing 737 (at the American Airlines Training Center) and the Airbus A-320 (at JetBlue University), and he’s flown several types of jets as co-pilot. He serves as an Ambassador for the American Bonanza Society. In 2023, the Piper M-Class Owners & Pilots Association honored Scott with its Master Aviator Award, PMOPA’s highest honor, in recognition of his “significant experience, specialized training and commitment to aviation safety.”

Scott serves as a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight (and as the Wing Leader for Angel Flight’s Southeast Texas Region) and for a number of other charitable organizations, including SouthWings, Young Eagles, LightHawk, AERObridge, Bronze Eagles, and Pilots ‘N Paws. He also serves as a Representative for FAASTeam, the FAA’s program to actively promote aviation safety.

Scott’s landed at hundreds of airports across the U.S. (map below). He especially enjoys flying in the mountains, with a soft spot for Leadville, Colorado, North America’s highest airport, at 9934’. He’s currently based at Houston Southwest Airport (AXH).

In his other life, Scott’s a trial lawyer, arbitrator and former managing partner of the boutique Houston law firm Gibbs & Bruns, where he’s been recognized by Best Lawyers in America, Legal 500, and (his kids’ favorite) LawDragon 500.
